Epic Universe has two full stage shows and a nighttime finale, and the two stage shows run right through the operating day. So the decision is not whether to see them but when, because time sitting in a theatre is time not spent standing in a queue.
We hold both halves of that trade. Our show log carries Epic Universe’s performance board, and our wait log carries 38,495 readings from the twelve queues the park posts. Set one against the other and the answer is not the obvious one. The two stage shows want opposite slots, because the lands they sit in peak three hours apart.
The full board
Le Cirque Arcanus plays in a theatre set into the 1920s Paris streets of the Ministry of Magic. The Untrainable Dragon plays in an indoor theatre on Isle of Berk. Both are seated, both get you out of the Florida afternoon, and Universal accepts Express Pass at both. The Celestial Goodnight is outdoors, stand where you like, and no Express applies.
| Show | Land | Performances | First | Last |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Le Cirque Arcanus | Ministry of Magic | 12 | 10:30am | 7:10pm |
| The Untrainable Dragon | Isle of Berk | 10 | 11:10am | 7pm |
| Universal Celestial Goodnight | Celestial Park | 2 | 8:30pm | 9:30pm |
Our own show pages summarise the week more thinly than that, at eight performances for Le Cirque Arcanus and nine for The Untrainable Dragon, with a hole in the middle of the afternoon that we have not been able to explain. The complete board is the one to plan on, and the app is the one to trust on your own date.
What the queues do, land by land
This is the half that makes the show schedule useful. Average posted wait, by hour, for each of the five lands.
| Hour | Celestial Park | Isle of Berk | Dark Universe | Super Nintendo World | Ministry of Magic |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10am | 11 | 19 | 15 | 40 | 96 |
| 11am | 16 | 34 | 29 | 57 | 87 |
| 12pm | 20 | 36 | 37 | 58 | 88 |
| 1pm | 20 | 34 | 39 | 52 | 99 |
| 2pm | 18 | 29 | 40 | 47 | 118 |
| 3pm | 18 | 29 | 37 | 45 | 122 |
| 4pm | 19 | 26 | 33 | 41 | 118 |
| 5pm | 16 | 22 | 31 | 37 | 102 |
| 6pm | 17 | 19 | 30 | 31 | 102 |
| 7pm | 21 | 14 | 25 | 26 | 82 |
Two of the five lands top out at noon. Celestial Park rises to a noon peak as well, then goes higher again at 7pm as people gather for the Goodnight. The Ministry of Magic is the one that fits neither pattern. It peaks at 3pm, three hours later than Super Nintendo World and Isle of Berk, and sits within four minutes of its worst from 2pm to 4pm.
The land itself is unusual. The Ministry of Magic holds exactly one ride, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, which on average is the longest queue in the park, and one theatre. Beyond those and four places to eat and drink, that is the whole of it, which is why the choice there is so stark.
Le Cirque Arcanus: take a mid-afternoon slot
In the Ministry of Magic the only two things that run to a clock are the ride and the show. So the slot to take is the one where the ride is at its most expensive.
| Performance | Battle at the Ministry that hour | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| 10:30am | 96 | Skip |
| 11:20am | 87 | Skip |
| 12:10pm | 88 | Fine |
| 12:55pm | 88 | Fine |
| 1:40pm | 99 | Good |
| 2:30pm | 118 | Strong |
| 3:15pm | 122 | Best slot of the day |
| 4pm | 118 | Strong |
| 4:45pm | 118 | Strong |
| 5:30pm | 102 | Good |
| 6:20pm | 102 | Good |
| 7:10pm | 82 | Skip, ride instead |
The 10:30am performance is a skip even though the Ministry queue is at 96 then, which is higher than it is at lunchtime. That is because the rest of the park is cheap in the first hour: 30 minutes park-wide at 10am against 45 at noon. Spend the opening hour riding, wherever you ride.
Take the 3:15pm and ride the Battle at the Ministry at 7pm, and the gap between those two hours is 40 minutes of queue. Do it the other way round, show at 7:10pm and ride in the middle of the afternoon, and you pay that 40 minutes for nothing. Same day, same two things, same order on paper.
Arrive with time in hand. The walk in runs past a row of sideshow booths with their own acts, which Universal’s own copy invites you to stroll past on the way to the main stage.
The Untrainable Dragon: take a lunchtime slot
Berk works the other way round. Its three queues are at their worst between 11am and 1pm and then fall away all afternoon, from 36 minutes at noon to 14 by 7pm. So on Berk the show slots to take are the early ones and the riding goes late.
| Performance | Isle of Berk queues that hour | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| 11:10am | 34 | Strong |
| 12pm | 36 | Best slot of the day |
| 12:50pm | 36 | Strong |
| 1:40pm | 34 | Strong |
| 2:30pm | 29 | Good |
| 3:40pm | 29 | Good |
| 4:30pm | 26 | Fine |
| 5:20pm | 22 | Skip |
| 6:10pm | 19 | Skip |
| 7pm | 14 | Skip, ride instead |
The show earns the slot on its own terms. It is a full stage production with Hiccup, Astrid, Gobber and a puppet Toothless that leaves the stage and flies out over the seated audience. Universal heads its own page for it “A 27-foot Wingspan Wonder” and puts the puppet at 1,157 pounds, about 525kg, with a wingspan of nearly 27 feet.
Both shows in one day

Because the two lands peak at opposite ends of the afternoon, you can take the best slot for each without trading one off against the other.
- The Untrainable Dragon at 12pm. Berk is at its worst hour of the day, 36 minutes across its three queues.
- Le Cirque Arcanus at 3:15pm. The Ministry of Magic is at its worst hour of the day, 122 minutes.
- Everything else from 4pm. Super Nintendo World drops from 58 at noon to 26 by 7pm, Berk from 36 to 14, Dark Universe from 40 at 2pm to 25.
That gives you a day where the time you spend sitting down falls in the hours the park is least worth walking around in. Both shows are included with a day in the park, so a slot costs nothing beyond admission. If the date is not booked yet, compare Epic Universe ticket prices first.
The Celestial Goodnight, and what our records disagree on
The nighttime finale is the one where we have to name a conflict rather than resolve it, because two Universal sources we hold disagree.
Our schedule record has the Celestial Goodnight at 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Our park hours log has Epic Universe closing at 8pm on 67 of the 91 dates we hold, at 7pm on 20 of them through November, at 6pm on three and at 9pm on one. On almost every date we have, the first performance starts after the posted close.
Both come from Universal’s own publishing and we are not going to pick one for you. If the Goodnight is the reason you are staying, check the hours for your date in the app before you build an evening around it.
What the wait log can tell you is the cost. The park-wide average falls from 45 minutes at noon to 27 at 7pm, so the last hour is the cheapest riding of the day and standing still for the fireworks spends it.
With one exception, and it is a neat one. Constellation Carousel and Stardust Racers are the only two queues at Epic Universe that are longer at 7pm than at 6pm, rising from 17 to 21 and from 16 to 21. Both sit in Celestial Park, which is where you watch the Goodnight from. The two rides you might otherwise pick up on the way out are the two that get dearer as the show approaches.
Two dates in 2026 change the evening entirely. Universal Nights at Epic Universe runs on 3 and 17 October, a separately ticketed night from 9pm to midnight with entry from 7pm, and the Goodnight falls inside that early entry window rather than after it.
The two character meets
Epic Universe publishes times for two character sets as well, both in Super Nintendo World. Mario and Luigi meet together on the lower level of Super Mario Land from 9am, an hour before the park opens to day guests on most dates, and Princess Peach greets from the gazebo at the land entrance from 10:40am. Both run roughly hourly into the early evening.
Peach is the first character most families reach and gets the longest line for exactly that reason, so take her on the way out rather than on the way in. Super Nintendo World is already at 40 minutes by 10am and 57 by 11am, which is the argument for not spending the opening hour in a photo queue.
What Universal does not publish
Two gaps are worth knowing about before you slot a show into a plan.
- No runtime, for anything. Universal publishes no running time for any of the three Epic Universe shows. Across every Universal entertainment record we hold, exactly one carries an official runtime, and that is Animal Actors on Location at Universal Studios Florida, on 20 minutes. We do not hold a runtime and we will not guess one. Allow more than you think.
- No confirmed arrival lead. We carry no assessed figure for how early to turn up at any of the ten Epic Universe entertainment records. For a seated show with a fixed capacity, that is the number you would most want from us.
Across Universal Orlando, 32 of the 58 entertainment entries we hold carry published times at all. Twelve of the rest are seasonal, after dark or closed. The other fourteen are roving or continuous, from the Ollivanders wand shops to the character zones, and have no clock to publish. At Epic Universe 5 of the 10 entertainment records we hold carry times, and the five that do not are all character meets: the Dark Universe Character Zone, Gobber’s Forge, Meet Donkey Kong, Meet Toad and Meet Toothless and Friends. Everything with a schedule to plan against is in the tables above.
The short version
- The Untrainable Dragon at 12pm, Le Cirque Arcanus at 3:15pm.
- Never take the last performance of either show. They start at 7pm and 7:10pm, straight into the cheapest queues of the day: Berk runs at 14 minutes in the 7pm hour and the Ministry of Magic at 82.
- Ride the Battle at the Ministry late rather than in the afternoon. It runs 122 minutes at 3pm and 82 at 7pm.
- Spend the opening hour riding, not watching. Park-wide it is 30 minutes at 10am against 45 at noon.
- Check your date’s closing time before you plan around the Celestial Goodnight.
