Universal hotels with Express Pass included, and what the other eight give you

Three of Universal Orlando’s eleven on-site hotels include Universal Express Unlimited, two more in the same tier do not, and the pass is not valid at Epic Universe. All eleven compared on what they actually give you.

Three of Universal Orlando’s eleven on-site hotels include Universal Express Unlimited with the room: Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort. Everyone staying in the room gets it, the room key is the pass, and it runs from check-in until the parks close on the day you leave.

Two things about that benefit are written up wrongly more often than anything else at this resort. It is not valid at Universal Epic Universe or at Universal Volcano Bay, only at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. And it is not a tier benefit: five hotels sit in the Signature Collection and only three carry it.

Every row below was checked against the operator’s own benefits pages on 1 October 2026.

Rooms and opening years from our own hotel catalogue; tier names as Universal publishes them.

On those counts the eleven hold 11,000 rooms between them and the three with Express hold 2,400. Fewer than a quarter of the rooms Universal operates on site come with the pass.

What the included pass actually covers

  • A separate, shorter queue at participating attractions in Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, as often as you like.
  • Every guest in the room, not only the person who booked.
  • The key card is the pass. If you completed mobile check-in, the passes can come through Universal’s own app instead.
  • Valid from check-in through park closing on your departure day, so the last morning still counts.
  • Not valid at Epic Universe or Volcano Bay, and not valid for separately ticketed events.
  • Not a way onto the Hogwarts Express, which needs a park-to-park ticket whatever your hotel.

The same three hotels carry a second benefit that almost never gets mentioned: priority seating at selected restaurants in the parks and at CityWalk, through the concierge desk. It is not a reservation and not a guarantee, but it is the only dining advantage attached to a room, and it sits at the same three addresses.

The Signature Collection split, and why it looks arbitrary

Universal sorts its hotels into three categories, and the top one holds five properties. Three carry the pass. Loews Sapphire Falls Resort and Universal Helios Grand Hotel do not.

Sapphire Falls is the sharpest version of the problem. It sits next door to Royal Pacific, shares the water taxi, has the same ten to twelve minute walk to the two original parks and wears the same tier badge. It does not come with Express, and enough other guides get that wrong to make it worth checking before you pay.

The split is historical rather than random. Universal used to sort these hotels into Premier, Preferred, Prime Value and Value, and it has retired Premier and Preferred. Our catalogue still records the old tier beside the current one, and the pattern falls straight out of it: the three hotels that include Express are the three former Premier hotels. Sapphire Falls was Preferred. Helios Grand opened in 2025, after the names were gone, and went into Signature Collection without the pass.

Epic Universe is the hole in the benefit

No on-site hotel includes Express at Epic Universe. Not the three whose pass states the exclusion, and not Helios Grand, which has its own gate into the park. Universal said in its own announcement of that hotel that it would not include Express Unlimited.

Express at Epic is sold separately and only in one form. The two original parks each offer a pass that covers every participating attraction once, and an Unlimited version that lets you go again. Epic has no Unlimited version at all.

ParkOne ride eachUnlimited
Universal Studios Florida£96.00£128.00
Islands of Adventure£100.00£132.00
Epic Universe£174.00Not sold
One-day Express as Universal’s UK store listed it on 1 October 2026, before a date is chosen. The store reprices once you pick a day.

Read that beside the hotel table and the consequence is blunt. At Epic your hotel changes nothing about queues, and the Express you can buy there costs more than Unlimited at either original park while doing less. If skipping queues is the point of the trip, the money goes on Universal Express for the two original parks, not on a Signature Collection room chosen for a perk that stops at the old campus.

What all eleven hotels get

Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando Resort
  • Early Park Admission, up to one hour before regular opening, at select attractions, with your key card and valid park admission. All four parks can be included, Epic Universe among them, but Universal decides which parks open early on the day, and Volcano Bay only when the weather allows.
  • Complimentary transport around the resort.
  • Charging purchases to the room across the resort.
  • Shop purchases delivered back to the hotel instead of carried round the park.

Early entry is the one that decides trips. At Epic Universe it is the only queue advantage a hotel stay buys, and it is the same hour whether you slept at Surfside Inn or at Portofino Bay.

Walking paths are the benefit to read carefully. Universal puts it as most of its hotels and parks being connected with paths, not all of them, and Endless Summer is where that qualifier bites. Our catalogue lists the transport at both halves as shuttle bus only and holds no walkable destination for either, while our own measured walk to Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure from each runs thirty to forty minutes. If a footpath is what you are booking for, the two cheapest hotels are not where you will find one.

What the other eight give you instead

Signature Collection, without the pass

Sapphire Falls gives you a boat and a footpath across 1,000 rooms that opened in 2016: ten to twelve minutes on foot to the two original parks, or six on the water taxi. Express there is something you buy, so you can also decline it on your Epic days.

Helios Grand gives you what no other hotel at either Orlando resort has, its own entrance into a theme park. Loews describes it as a dedicated and exclusive entrance into Epic Universe, and our measured walk from hotel to gate is under two minutes. At 500 rooms it is the smallest of the eleven. Write-ups claiming it buys an extra thirty to forty five minutes on top of early entry are not supported by anything Universal has published, so we do not carry the claim.

Prime Value Hotels

Aventura gives you the shortest walk to a park of any Universal hotel bar Helios Grand, two to five minutes on foot to Volcano Bay. It holds 600 rooms, opened in 2018, and is fifteen to twenty minutes on foot to the two original parks.

Stella Nova and Terra Luna give you the newest rooms Universal has built, 750 each, both opened in 2025 and both on the Epic Universe campus rather than the old one. Our set holds a ten to twelve minute walk to Epic from Stella Nova, and a five to seven minute shuttle from either. Terra Luna is unsettled in our own records: a measured leg of ten to twelve minutes sits against a transport note putting its route at roughly twenty minutes across several roads, an empty walkable list, and Universal naming only two hotels you can walk to Epic from. Take the bus as the plan there. Here the two sources disagree and we let them: Universal’s own page calls Stella Nova a five to ten minute walk from the Chronos gate, and we measured ten to twelve. Both are travelling times and neither includes waiting for a vehicle.

Value Inns and Suites

Cabana Bay gives you room, in both senses. It is the largest hotel on the property at 2,200, split by Loews into 1,280 standard rooms that sleep up to four and 920 family suites that sleep up to six. Our own catalogue leaves its occupancy blank, which is a gap in our data and not a fact about the hotel. It is twenty minutes on foot to Islands of Adventure, twenty five to Universal Studios Florida and five to ten to Volcano Bay.

Dockside Inn and Suites gives you 2,050 rooms of which 1,059 are two-bedroom suites that sleep six. Surfside Inn and Suites is the smaller half at 750 rooms, 390 of them the same two-bedroom suites. Universal lists the shuttle bus as the transport from either.

Volcano Bay changes this until spring

Volcano Bay closes for the season from 26 October 2026, and the operator puts the reopening as “on or before April 1, 2027”. For that window early entry at Volcano Bay is worth nothing, and the walking path to the water park is unavailable while the park is shut. That removes the walking route to the water park at Aventura, Sapphire Falls and Cabana Bay at once. If a short stroll to a water park is why you chose one of those three, check your dates.

Who should pay for an Express hotel

If your trip is weighted to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, the included pass is the largest single benefit Universal attaches to a room, and it covers the room rather than one person in it. A day of Unlimited at Islands of Adventure listed on its own at £132.00 on 1 October 2026. Multiply that by your party and your park days on the old campus, then compare it with what the tier costs you.

If your trip is weighted to Epic Universe, the pass does nothing. You would be paying the top tier for a hotel that buses you to the park the trip is about, and the queue advantage you came for stops at a gate you are not using.

The Signature Collection badge is not the thing to read. Three specific hotels carry Express, and the tier they share with two that do not is an accident of renaming.

Before you book

  • Confirm Express inclusion on the hotel’s own page at the moment you book. We checked all eleven on 1 October 2026 and keep the current answer on the hotels that include Express Pass.
  • If Epic Universe is the centre of the trip, choose on route and on early entry. Express is not available to you from any room.
  • If you want the pass and five people in one standard room, all three Express hotels take five on our catalogue’s counts.
  • Put two side by side on our hotel comparison, or read all eleven Universal hotels in one list.
